Capabilities

Practical engineering and dependable project execution.

JCMCE supports projects from early definition through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, handover and operation. Engineering disciplines can be commissioned individually or combined into a high quality multidisciplinary scope.

Project lifecycle

Understand the decisions, overlaps and release points.

The stages are a navigation framework, not a waterfall. Detailed design, procurement, supplier design, assurance, Approved for Construction release, manufacture, construction and commissioning overlap by package. Select a phase below to examine its objectives, evidence and decision points. Terminology is aligned to the client and sector, including FEL, concept, select, define, FEED, the RIBA Plan of Work, Network Rail PACE, legacy GRIP, client stage gates and regulatory hold points.

Integrated delivery map

One project. Several workstreams moving together.

The programme moves forward while design, procurement, supplier engineering, assurance and delivery progress at different rates by package.

Lifecycle stages: 01, Strategy, Concept & Feasibility; 02, Definition & FEED; 03, Detailed Design & Assurance; 04, Procurement & Construction; 05, Commissioning & Handover; 06, Operations & Asset Support.

01–04Definition and lead designBusiness need, design basis, FEED and coordinated detailed design.
02–04Procurement and supplier appointmentPackage strategy, tendering, technical and commercial evaluation and award.
03–05Supplier design and integrationAfter appointment: calculations, drawings, data, responsibilities and interfaces.
02–05HAZOP, assurance and releaseSafety review, verification and progressive AFC release follow package maturity.
03–05Manufacture, construction and handoverInspection, installation, testing and turnover progress by package and system.
05–06Operational readiness and asset supportOperations input begins before handover and continues through the asset life.

The package release cycle

Repeated for each package at its own maturity.

Scope configuration

Structured around the project and its required outcomes.

The scope is built around the engineering decisions, quality requirements, risks, interfaces and delivery outcomes the client needs.

01

Defined engineering scope

Commission a discipline, study, design package or assurance activity with clear deliverables.

02

Integrated design and delivery

Coordinate engineering, quality, controls and commercial delivery through one accountable scope.

03

Client side support

Strengthen delivery through Owner’s Engineer, PMC, project management and independent review roles.

Delivery and commercial arrangement

Project stage and contracting model are separate decisions.

The project lifecycle describes when the work is undertaken. The contract defines who is responsible, how the services are delivered and how risk is allocated. JCMCE can provide a defined engineering discipline, an integrated design scope, project management, independent assurance, Owner’s Engineer support or PMC services. We can also work within EPC and EPCm delivery teams. Every appointment sets out the scope, interfaces, deliverables, programme, quality requirements, change control and commercial terms.
